In the wake of ongoing hostilities between India and Pakistan, Rajasthan’s Barmer district has been placed on high alert after unidentified missile debris was discovered in the Gida Pareu area early Saturday morning. Local authorities have cordoned off the site and are awaiting specialized agencies for further investigation and assessment.
The debris, believed to be from a missile or aerial projectile, reportedly fell at around 4:42 AM, with multiple fragments recovered within a five-kilometre radius. Eyewitnesses described loud explosions followed by flashes of light and smoke, prompting immediate panic but no reported injuries.
“I heard two loud sounds and saw flashes of light. The debris landed just 500 feet from my home,” said local resident Mohan Chowdhary, adding that three other impact sites were found nearby, including one close to a temple.
Residents of Baldev Nagar, located near the Uttarlai Air Force Station and Jalipa Military Station, also reported early morning aerial activity and falling debris. Locals, including Devraj and Raju, recounted seeing drones and hearing explosions before discovering remnants on nearby roads.
While officials have yet to confirm the nature of the projectiles, the timing coincides with retaliatory Indian airstrikes under Operation Sindoor, launched in response to Pakistan’s attacks on 26 Indian locations along the western border and LoC.
At a joint press briefing by the Ministries of External Affairs and Defence, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi detailed India’s precision airstrikes on key Pakistani military targets—including radar stations, command centres, and ammunition depots in Rafiqui, Murid, Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Chunian, Pasrur, and Sialkot.
She reiterated India’s intention to avoid escalation, stating that all strikes were aimed solely at military infrastructure to minimize civilian impact. The situation remains tense, with Indian forces on high operational alert and continued cross-border exchanges reported.
